JNMLF Opening Day Parade Returns in Grand Fashion

FAIRFIELD, OH (April 8, 2022)—Everyone loves a parade, and the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields are excited for the return of one of the organization’s favorite traditions.

After a two-year hiatus due to the global Coronavirus pandemic, The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields Opening Day Parade presented by Mike’s Carwash is scheduled for Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 10:00am. The parade route begins at Sacred Heart Church in Fairfield and winds its way through the local neighborhood before ending with a short on-field ceremony at The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields.

Local 12's John Lomax

Cincinnati legend and retiring anchor of Local 12’s Good Morning Cincinnati John Lomax will serve as the 2022 Parade Grand Marshall. Lomax will lead a crew of special needs all-stars from the Great Miami Valley YMCA Youth League and the Therapeutic Recreation for the Disabled (TRD) Adult League marching alongside community members and organizations including: 2022 Nuxhall Humanitarian Award Winner and Cincinnati Reds batboy Teddy Kremer, the Fairfield High School Marching Band, the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings vintage baseball team, and Cincinnati Reds mascots Rosie Red & Gapper.

“I’ve told many good stories in my years at Local 12,” says Lomax, “but I can’t think of a story with more impact and as inspiring than the one that has been written at The Joe Nuxhall Miracle Fields. I’ve seen hope, dreams, and community in action every time I’ve gone there and as I wrap up my long and memorable career in television news, being asked to serve as the Parade Grand Marshall for an organization I love is a true honor.”

This year’s parade will also include the highly-anticipated introduction of the new mascot for The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields. The Nuxhall Foundation has been teasing the mascot’s introduction on social media for the past few months.

“We have so much to celebrate with this year’s parade,” says Kim Nuxhall, President and Board Chairman of The Nuxhall Foundation. “Our 10th anniversary, the awesomeness and big-league character of John Lomax, Teddy Kremer’s forthcoming award, our new mascot, and of course our all-stars, families, and volunteers that have made this parade worth the wait!”

Mike’s Carwash returns as the presenting sponsor of The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields Parade. A reliable supporter of The Nuxhall Foundation, Mike's Carwash is headquartered in Loveland, Ohio. The company is known for its state-of-the-art carwash technology, friendly customer service and dedication to the communities it serves. In 2021, the generosity of Mike’s Carwash was on full display, donating more than $26,000 in proceeds from the opening of their new Fairfield Township location to The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields.

“We are grateful to Mike’s Carwash for their continued support of an event that has become an exciting tradition for our athletes and their families,” says Tyler Bradshaw, Executive Director for The Nuxhall Foundation. “We are also thankful to the talented team of volunteers who help us coordinate this parade and keep everything running so smoothly.”

Parade participants are encouraged to line up at Sacred Heart Church in Fairfield beginning at 9:15am (no early arrivals; those who arrive early will be asked to return later). Parade staff will organize the units into a parade line, which begins its march towards the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields at 10:00am. Upon arrival at the facility, a brief on-field ceremony will recognize Lomax and the Miracle League all-stars, along with the introduction of the mascot.

The Nuxhall Foundation is the legacy foundation for former Major League Baseball pitcher and longtime Cincinnati Reds broadcaster, Joe Nuxhall. A central project of The Nuxhall Foundation is The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields—an entirely accessible baseball and recreational facility where every player with every challenge gets every chance to play. More than 200 players between ages 4 to 78 participate in programs at the Miracle League Fields. For more information, visit www.nuxhallmiracleleague.org.
