Fundraising events and generous private contributions make wheelchair-accessible golf a reality
Mini golf comes to The Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields 2018
More than $100,000 has been pledged to fund a wheelchair-accessible nine-hole mini-golf course at the Joe Nuxhall Miracle League Fields complex in Fairfield, JNML Board Chairman Kim Nuxhall announced Wednesday.“It’s the story of the Miracle Ball for 2017,” Nuxhall said about the organization’s recent fundraising event. “It was a huge success, and now we can break ground on the course next Spring.” “The handicap-accessible mini-golf course is another way for us to bring smiles to the faces of our All-Stars and their families,” said JNML Vice Chairman Larry Tischler.
In recent days, the organization received a $20,000 matching grant from an anonymous donor, and a $10,000 “renewal pledge” from a previous contributor. “Finding a fun activity for the whole family that’s also handicap-accessible can be challenging,” said JNML board member Heek Hake, whose daughter Kylie has special needs. “I love how it will accommodate Kylie and others so that they may play golf with ease,” she added. “I believe it’s the only wheelchair-accessible course in the area,” Nuxhall said, “and Messer Construction has really helped out with the design of the course and a plan to manage its construction.”
Two of the nine holes already have sponsors, and the organization is seeking additional sponsors at that level ($10,000/hole) and a full-naming-rights sponsor ($50,000). “Our mission has always been to provide opportunities for those with challenges that are not routinely available to them,” said Tischler.
